Bam! Swoosh. Pop! Lights seem to flash as Brian’s vision becomes disoriented. His vision cuts in and out, all he sees is the blur of white, black, grey and red. The red, it is so vibrant and gruesome.
Slamming into the ground Brian collapses from the shock of the fall. Darkness, Brain in a daze, confused as to how he just fallen. A moment ago he was sitting watching TV at his home in Chicago. In the next seconds he heard tremendous noises, blurs of white light and that red, so vivid and real, then disorientation and darkness.
As the darkness, reveals itself to tan, grainy murkiness, Brain hears more pops, bangs and sees many flashes of bright white blinding light, followed by earth shattering booms. Excruciating pain surges through his body radiating from his left leg, which he had landed on in his fall. It was broken and bleeding profusely, bleeding that same vibrant red he had seen in his vision.
The popping noise is getting louder, closer and more frequent. Brain is starting to see more and more of the environment he is in. Brown clay buildings, very desolate and grim looking, surround him on all sides.
He can hear faint screaming now it’s getting louder; in a language he cannot understand. The screaming is coming from directly in front of him his helpless position masked men with AK-47’s suddenly come from around the corner. The men start shooting over him, like he is not even there, not one acknowledging his presence.
Turning to see what these men are shooting at, Brian realizes there are even more men behind him; these men dressed in fatigues which are much more familiar to him. They look like the Marine Corps uniform his brother Evan wore when he was sent to Iraq after enlisting. The Marines rush past him exchanging gunfire with the masked AK-47 wielding men. They continue to rush the masked men until one solider slammed to a stop in front of Brain.
“Brain?” the Marine screams over the sound of gunfire and explosions. “What the f**k are you doing here?”
“Evan?” Brain exclaims in a bout of confusion. “I don’t know how I got here! Where are we?”
“Iraq.” Evan screams as he grabs Brain to drag him to cover.
Bam! Swoosh. Pop! Flashes of light obscure the men’s vision. The light is a blur of color like a rainbow, bright green, purple and blue with a hint of yellow. Then they descend into darkness and confusion once again.
Thud! The men crash on top of each other as they fall. Their vision cuts in and out the rainbow colors start to fade. As Brian regains his sight he looks around to see where he was he realized he was home, in Chicago. Then he immediately looks down and sees that Evan is here with him. They stare at each other blankly.
Even exclaims, “What a mind fuck.”
